Waste audit

Last term the whole school teamed up and rummaged through the rubbish in order to answer two very important questions. How much rubbish do we create? And what types of rubbish do we create? Our findings were quiet significant as the table below shows. These four categories were the most significant of our results.

Aluminium/Metal - 2100grams

Paper - 8500grams

Food scraps - 4150grams

Plastic - 4100grams

The next question to answer was; How do we limit the amount of our waste which goes to landfill?

Students had excellent discussion ideas and we have started to put together systems which will allow us to stop some of our waste from ending up in landfill. Keep it up to become more sustainable.

Paper—recycled in classrooms in white plastic buckets so we can make our own paper later in the term.

Food scraps—recycled and put into a special bin at lunch times to go towards composting and worm farm food.
